" Let this list be a resource for new ideas for your business". Jim Conant NCSG President conant @ dmci.net " I can't think of anything I've ever partaken in that has consistently provided as much entertainment, education and companionship as CHIMNEYS-L ". Bob Harper PreFab Fireplaces, Inc. Harpersx4 @ aol.com "Like many of you I feel these forums are a bit of a second home now". Bob Daniels "Sooty Bob" Copperfield Chimney Supply "It is often thought provoking and educational" Dan Hughes? sootydan @ aol.com More comments; Date: 95-12-28 06:44:24 EST, Jonathan Brind wrote: Every morning the first thing I do (even before I go swimming) is log on to see what those crazy sweeps in America are doing. If you want to find out about the latest strange creature found in a chimney (family of raccoons, Wood Duck etc.), catch the latest impassioned debate about standards and working practices or merely find out who's bought what supplier (and why) the list is the only way to do it. The list is free speech in the raw. Professional talking to professional in a completely uncensored and immediate way. Hey, sometimes I don't understand it (we have different building codes on my side of the pond and there's no such thing as UL) but I wouldn't miss it. And when those guys and gals get to talking about marketing I find it hard to believe we all live on the same planet. British sweeps never talk like that.... Instantly, a medium to ask questions, air grievances, feel feedback, and socialize with the worlds best professionals. Where else could I wake up at 2 or 3 in the morning, turn on my computer and suddenly be involved in an E-mail discussion on Liners, NFPA 211, Business Building, Tool Talks, Pro -vs- Con on every subject of interest to a chimney sweep! My only regrets concerning the list is that it was not produced long, long ago... Best Wishes! It is truly a valuable asset to the chimney service industry. Even when I'm not directly involved in the mail being passed along by the list, the information has been extremely useful. The list allows anyone involved to tap a tremendous amount of knowledge without a large expense to their business. Sometimes I've disagreed with statements that have been made, but usually if I feel strongly about it, everyone will hear me. (I'm only a little bit shy :)) Overall, the advantage to the list is the ability to tap that knowledge base of dedicated professionals, who are willing to offer their assistance to their less experienced fellow sweeps, with just one letter to the list. What your list and the chat sessions both provide, is the same close contact that you would get by going to seminars and trade shows. We all know that the "after hours" time spent with other Chimney Sweeps is the most valuable time at any seminar or trade show. (Even though the shows and seminars are valuable information) We are able to have that same kind of contact on an ongoing basis because of the list and the chat sessions. I also think that I've made some friends and a number of professional acquaintances while being involved in both. Enough. Keep up the good work, it's important. Paul Anderson topsweep @ bellsouth.net Bless Your Hearth Chimney Service Dave, Thank you for your DISTINGUISHED leadership. I too enjoy the interaction among the many sweeps in the world.
