Group jobs by area, book early, keep a waitlist and confirm every appointment to cut drive time and no-shows.
In most of the country, chimney work bunches up in the fall and early winter. A little planning keeps trucks productive and customers happy when the phones are busiest.
Route by area
- Split your territory into zones and give each day a zone, so trucks are not crossing town between jobs.
- Fill a day in one zone before opening the next.
- Leave a gap each day for urgent calls such as smoke in the house or water coming in.
Book the busy season early
- Contact past customers in late summer with a reminder and an easy way to book.
- Offer off-season times for repairs and relining, when weather and schedules allow.
- Keep a waitlist for cancellations and call it first when a slot opens.
Confirm every appointment
Send a confirmation when the job is booked and a reminder the day before, with the time window and how to reschedule. Ask the homeowner not to use the fireplace or stove for a set time beforehand, as your company requires, so the firebox is cold.
Give realistic time windows
A two- to three-hour arrival window is easier to keep than an exact time. If you are running late, call or text before the window closes.
