A simple shot list for every inspection, so your report shows what you found and nothing important gets missed.
Good photos make an inspection report believable. They show the homeowner what you saw in places they will never climb to, and they are your record if a question comes up later.
Shoot in the same order every time
- The house and chimney from the street, for context
- The chimney from the roof: crown, cap, flue tile, masonry and mortar joints
- Flashing and the roof-to-chimney joint on every side
- The firebox, damper and smoke chamber
- The flue, from the camera scan where a Level 2 is being done
- The attic or chase where accessible, including clearances to framing
- Any appliance, connector and its label
Make each photo useful
- Take one wide shot to show where you are, then a close-up of the problem.
- Use your flashlight or a light on the camera rod; dark photos do not convince anyone.
- Add a short caption: what it is, where it is and why it matters.
- Take an "after" photo of any work you complete.

Reports belong to the homeowner. If you use job photos in marketing, crop out house numbers, people, vehicles and paperwork, and ask permission first.
Members can use Capturify for guided photo capture on the job, and Reportify to turn those photos and notes into a branded report. Ask us about either one.
