Getting and replying to Google reviews the right way

By ChimneySweeps.com · · For chimney companies and technicians

Tall exterior brick chimney beside a two-story home

Ask every customer, make it easy, reply to every review, and stay inside Google’s and the FTC’s rules.

Homeowners read reviews before they call. A steady flow of recent, genuine reviews, with thoughtful replies, is one of the best things a local chimney company can have online.

Ask every customer

  • Ask at the end of the job, when the homeowner has just seen the work.
  • Follow up the same day with a text or email that has a direct link to your Google review form.
  • Ask everyone. Google's policies do not allow selectively asking only happy customers.

Stay within the rules

  • Do not offer discounts, gifts or payment for reviews; Google's policies prohibit incentives.
  • Never write reviews for yourself or have staff or family post them. The FTC's rule on consumer reviews bans fake reviews.
  • Do not ask customers to change or remove a negative review in exchange for anything.

Reply to every review

  • Positive: thank them by first name, mention the service, keep it short.
  • Negative: respond calmly, do not argue in public, and offer to talk directly. Never post private details.

Members can have us monitor their Google reviews and write the replies. See For Chimney Companies for details.
